Russian masterworks-Stravinsky's fleeting Fireworks and Tchaikovsky's impassioned "Pathétique"-flank the U.S. premiere of a double concerto by esteemed Composer-in-Residence Krzysztof Penderecki. Faculty member Ignat Solzhenitsyn leads the Curtis Symphony Orchestra, joining with fellow alumni Benjamin Schmid and Roberto Díaz, Curtis president, in the Penderecki. Conducting fellow Kensho Watanabe is also featured. This stunning finale to the Curtis Symphony Orchestra season is preceded by a gala in the Kimmel Center's Commonwealth Plaza. Part of the 2013-14 all-school project, Russia: A Land an Its Influence.
